While Kesavan is head over heels in love with Saramma, Saramma pretends as if she is least interested in him. The theme of unrequited love is old but Basheer's prose makes the reader adore Kesavan Nair, sympathize with Saramma and subtly introduces a society which breaks apart human relations with its 'religion'.

Jul 17, Fictionhead rated it really liked it. The premise of the story is simple but it is stellar in its telling. A young man is trying to impress upon a sarcastic young woman, his love for her. In doing so she offers her a job--to love him everyday--for a salary of Rs Their banter is hilarious and adorable in its naivete. This book remains relevant to this day because it shows us once again that love is beyond logic.
